What to consider before adopting:
- Do plenty of research (so you know what you’re getting into!) and prep before bringing home your bunny.
- You will absolutely need to rabbit-proof your home and provide a safe space for them, one that includes a spot where they can hide and/or cozy up.
- Keep in mind that bunnies need lots of attention, companionship, playtime and care to stay happy and healthy. They need at least as much attention as a dog or a cat and can become withdrawn and depressed if they don’t get a lot of love and social interaction.
- Pet bunnies need to have a good vet and ideally one who is really knowledgable about rabbits. Their healthcare can be expensive. We highly recommend finding a bunny vet near you before adopting.
- They are sensitive and sometimes resist being picked up and cuddled, so they’re not always ideal pets to have around young kids.
- Rabbits are not necessarily “easy” pets to keep in general. They require special foods and consistently stimulating environments. Also, they can live for more than 10 years, so becoming a bunny guardian truly is a commitment.

Where to adopt:
- In northern California, go to SaveABunny. SaveABunny has a "foster a bunny program”, too!!
- The House Rabbit Society also has so many good suggestions for places to adopt here. Look for the "local chapters" for specifics.
- If you are outside of the Bay Area, another place to consider an adoption would be your local Humane Society or animal shelter. Bunnies are given up all too frequently!
