Bunny Worldview
It is easy to love bunnies!
Truly, rabbits are almost universally beloved animals - think of the Easter Bunny, Peter Rabbit, Bugs Bunny, etc. They are such good-natured and innocent beings. Our vision focuses on how we humans can be better guardians and caretakers for bunnies.
Things are changing with how the world treats rabbits, and we are inspired to be part of this change for the better. Humans have a very upsetting history in terms of our interactions with these gentle creatures. Rabbits are often treated really poorly, with a casual cruelty that is shocking, especially to anyone who has spent time around a sweet natured bunny.
Oddly, there is not a lot of government oversight on the treatment of rabbits. Bunnies are exempt from the “Humane Methods of Slaughter Act”, meaning that they can be killed in any manner and they are commonly kept in inhumane conditions. They are exploited commercially - raised to be factory farmed meat or for biomedical and product testing, which is often painful. They are often subject to irresponsible breeding practices and sometimes are genetically modified to be “boutique bunnies” that feature pretty colors or droopy ears, like lops - these bunnies are sometimes extra cute but often have health issues that cause them unnecessary suffering.
Another common problem is that bunnies are often purchased impulsively (especially around Easter) to be a pet and then given up to an animal shelter.
Bunnies deserve a lot better!
We like to hold hope that people treat bunnies as we tend to treat dogs and cats, in a compassionate, loving, and ethical manner.
